Westdale Heights Academic Magnet (WHAM) is a dedicated academic magnet with an environmental science focus with mathematics and technology integration. "WHAM" offers exciting opportunities for students who desire a rigorous educational program in subjects integrated in science, writing, technology, and problem solving skills.
Students are offered a variety of subjects and extracurricular activities to encourage opportunities to inquire, explore, and produce projects based on individual interests. The school is noted for its outstanding faculty, inquiry-based science lab instruction, student diversity, academic rigor, high parental involvement, and a warm family-like atmosphere.
In 2015, Westdale Heights received the "School of Merit" Award from Magnet Schools of America. In 2013, 2011, 2009, and 2008 Westdale Heights was named a "School of Excellence" by Magnet Schools of America (MSA).
In 2010, Westdale Heights received the Intel Elementary School of Distinction award for teaching science. Westdale was chosen as the top elementary school in the United States in the area of science. This award provided us with new software, technology tools and equipment, as well as $10,000 to support our science, technology, and overall curriculum.
In 2008, Westdale Heights received the U.S. Department of Education NCLB "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence."
